Catherine's Traditional Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The large audience will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
